On the greener side of things... |
It looks as though the summer is well on its way and as such we have been so busy working outside that an update is well overdue! All the animals are enjoying their routine naps with a belly stuffed full of fresh clover and grass, soaking up the warm afternoon sun. The first calf popped out on May 29th and two more have joined in since. The pigs have also been busy, adding 5 more litters to the bunch. The older ones are taking their daily excursion trips checking out everything that looks the least bit promising of adventure. The younger ones are only a few weeks old and are still enjoying the presence of their moms to the fullest extent. With the grass growing like mad, the grazing season is off to a good start as well. This year we are also boarding an organic herd of Holstein cattle, which seems to be enjoying the freedom of open pastures after the long winter months. The days are usually spent by attending the daily chores, maintaining and building fences, keeping the garden and the greenhouse up to date, working with the horses as well as doing some landscaping jobs for neighbors in the community among many other tasks. We wish you all a prosperous summer and hope to see those traveling through on their summer vacation! | | | |
